I found tent poles, incredibly strong fiberglass tube 8mm O.D.
it looked much heavier compared to Carbon that all my multirotors made of but I was unable to break the damn thing ! Each pole was 50g and 34g after I cut them to 41cm. I decided to make a quad anyway and complete frame come under 300g just like all other(expensive twill carbon) quads I have.
I believe this quad will last forever, even if car rolls over it :)
Build took 4hours incl.flashing ESCs and tuning.

Nice :)

What i noticed viewing your video is that the image looks so different than from what i am used to see when shot from a flying platform. I think because the way it is controlled by your nunchuck, the viewing experience is quite pleasant. No jerky movements :)

Incredible coordination. Most people can't even effectively drive while talking on their cell phone, yet you can ride your bike while flying a quad. Skills.

Thanks! The truth is I can barely fly without MAG, 90% flight time HeadFree is active, camera pan/tilt switched between 4 preset positions. With autolevel and MAG I'll never develop any skills :( BaseFlight/Naze32 makes life easier !

found more tent poles, these seem spent years under burning sun - steel joiners rusted completely, I just folded them to fit the poles in a car. Amazingly fiber-glass is still strong as new. Carbon tubes destroyed by Sun radiation unless covered by special coating and even then its life limited while fiberglass lasts for ages, seems like I have lifetime supply of quad frames ;)

What is the big black plate in the center of the quad, is that the FC?

fmkit
10th September 2013, 12:02 PM
yes, all in one: central plate, distro board, flight controller,UHF LRS,telemetry, power LED drivers

Nice! Are you selling those?

fmkit
10th September 2013, 01:26 PM
I can sell bare PCB $10/ea +$4 shipping, I populate boards for myself, if you can solder SMT enjoy lightest and durable quad CC3D/BaseFlight compatible (need external RX), my version firmware only works with dedicated UHF Nunchuk.

sure ! ;)
today the the fiberglass poles returned to the same spot they were found
this as time as a quad frame and flew 200m up ;)
Note this is not an HD recording but flight cam, Sony Effio came from ebay for $32
along with excellent videolink we got 1w UHF LRS repeater, range is only limited by flight pack

crash at 0:30 and very nice one in the end

That's an awesome setup. Did I hear you say there is an onboard dvr? That would explain why there were absolutely zero glitches in the vid feed on the last video. Nice setup, I like the gryo stabilized flight camera.

"crash at 0:30 and very nice one in the end"
somehow last second cut off, the quad landed on buddy's head :)
precision landing possible with this quad

camstab is standard feature on MWC/BaseFlight boards
car DVR records simultaneously both cameras, because of small backup battery all crashes recorded even if flight pack lost

15 minutes ago I had 40minutes flight with a quad that cost me less than $100 (battery not incl.) !
No carbon, just fiber-glass and plastic GWS8043 props with rubber band savers.
2P 3S NCR18650B =285g
quad frame 318g (incl.powerful LEDs)

end voltage 9v under load, 10v open
430m above sea level

2nd flight was 47minutes

the gimbal is just VTS05A 8g / 1.0kg / .17sec Servo - very smooth, you can hear servo noise while camera tilted but picture is jello free.
Tried many digital servos - too jumpy, use analog plastic gears for best results
