Pickings must be slim out there in Georgia. That's like a pimple on a gnat's ass :)
Not taking away anything away from the video mind you, just an observation from someone who's grown up in a mountainous region.

Yeah, here in lower North GA that is about it. YOu have to dedicate a good day or even weekend to work your way up to the Smokeys or Appalachian foothills for some real mountains.
And remember, our mountains have got like a couple million years on yours. They are showing their age.. ;)

As I've just discovered, its most exhilarating to follow the terrain of a mountain. I want to get together with some of you and run some bigger stuff. Sentry said he has a spot up near Lookout. Should we make a day out of it soon?

Lies. I'd be still in the park if it wasn't for this guy. Derek is a boss.

mountain flying is VERY addicting. so much fun to get close to the rock at breakneck speed as the hazards await to eat your plane at thier first opportunity :D :D
Nothing gets the adrenaline pumping like risk!
Had my first go at the mountains a couple weeks ago. Was unreal.

Sentry where is your spot near Lookout? Also keep in mind Chilhowee Mountain, from the Ocoee(Parksville) lake up to Chilhowee lake looks pretty cool.

I have permission to fly w/ the Hangliders (Wildwood, GA --> 34 53 44.98, -85 26 47.59). "A" is the unassisted launch - and they land at the base. At the base, they have towed launches.

I also have permision to fly at Mountain Cove Farm Store (34 37 50.94, -85 27 10.47 ). "A" is the store - and you can see it's nestled in some AMAZING scenery. I sat on the front porch of this store for hours talking w/ the owner... he welcomed me to fly there as recently as last week.

There are 2 more spots I have. 1 puts me 2 miles out from the canyons at Cloudland - the other is in Ider, AL and is PERFECT to overfly the canyon as well.
My issue is not locations - my issue is people who'll say "let's do it."

How many people do you need? Seems doable with one person?

Yeah - but it's definitely easier to have some1 running tech on the ground for you when you fly and checking out the AGE (aircraft ground equipment). But I do understand that an hour drive to just go fly planes is a lot for a lot of people.

Can you get away with flying around Stone Mountain? That would make some interesting imagery.

If you wait a while, you can also fly around a mountain in Holland:

Yes, I think so. I have a spot planned out thats right outside the gates. It looks safe and will provide a way to excape without the Stone Mountain Police trying to follow my plane. These guys are hardcore and would confiscate your plane if they caught you flying around Stone Mountain. Thats the main reason for this mission :)

I think the Sentry should be invited to this black op. Put me within 15 miles of it I can hit it, play, and then make it home. :)

There is a church right across 78 that is only 1.5 miles away .....nice ball field to fry from. Ive been eyeing that spot as a launch point.
Someone in the park to recover the plane if needed would be best IMO.
If I didnt have to work Ild be there.

Good itea. And have a video camera to get a ground view of the run.
As long as the church as an unobstructed view of the mountain and carving, were good. I want to get low enough to fly past the statues.

Dont know about that....you need to do a recon and check it out. Check out google maps....its a big church.
But yeah....camera on the ground ....even one up on top would be nice if you had enough people.
Run at the carvings would be cool for sure but Ive been looking at the east side for a good run down the mountain but I cant locate a good launch point yet.
