Welp, after flying a few flights and realizing FPV is a hobby I'm going to stick with, i went this morning and passed both technician and general class amateur radio exams.

License should be here in a week or so, and probably about midweek i should be able to check and see if my callsign has been assigned.

nice work!

Its something I really want to do but I am not sure where to take the test as I kinda live in the middle of nowhere.

Cool. KF5MFX here...I got it right before I bought all my fpv stuff. I will admit, I just crammed for a couple days before the test though...and missed 1 question.

Yeah, pretty much what i did too... took practice exams until i could pass them no problem, then took the tests. Missed 1 on tech, and 3 on general.

PilotKeeg, i looked on arrl.org to find an exam session close by; you might be able to find one too.

Congrats! I was a one day wonder too. Got my call sign back in 2009 after a one day cram session.

I studied for 20 minutes at a time (1 or 2 practice tests) for about a week and then went and took the real test. All I know is that I passed. I have no idea how well I actually did.

When I took the test, the VE's asked if I wanted to know how well I did... they couldn't tell me specifically which questions I got wrong, but they did tell me I missed one question on the tech, and three on the general tests.

Is there a little study guide of some sort or did you just go through all the sample questions until you memorized all of them?

They have the entire test bank of questions available on the site. I just did a once read through of the questions and the right answers for the tech and general the night before and missed none on the tech and I think 2 on the general.

Nice.. Seems you're not the only one going for the vanity, there's a W8UAV too, somewhere in MI. =]

I figured since I have the license I might as well make some use of it too, was bombing around the 10 meter band and had a chat with someone out in Astoria, OR.. Not a bad hop for the "quality" gear I have in my truck.
